There is....it is called Beer. That is why Canadians are so easy to get along with.

(It has other properties. Used in large enough amount, even I start to look good!)

Hey Rainreg,

I can live with simple green, but it is also an emulsifier that will also strip the O-rings of their nascent oil and vitality. While alcohol is stronger, it takes less time and effort to do its job and evaporates quickly and completely with no residue. Of course, one of the reasons for using the various “goos” is to re-establish the surface integrity of the O-Rings (on a microscopic level) so they can interface correctly with their mating surfaces. The wanton use of these products to address gross defects in the O-ring or their mating surfaces is counter productive and just plain dangerous!

To me however, the most important issue is not using ANY solvent that is a petroleum distillate. This will cause distortion of the O-ring, and change its sealing characteristics dramatically. Unlike alcohol, petroleum distillates are absorbed by most O-Rings. Even those designed for use with fuels are not immune, and are in reality only “resistant” to the solvents in any petroleum product. Due to its unique structure, alcohol is one of the few solvents that will dissolve ionic as well as carbon based deposits.

As for your comment about the further cleaning of O-rings to make them Oxy suitable, I would love to hear more details on that subject. I understand that YOU are the Oxy clean guru, and would love to hear more on the subject, and possibly even take one of your classes.

And Tavi... they WERE magpies... good call!

Well, at least they were cute magpies! I got the "cute" part right....

Yep, Ontario Diver, BEER will do the trick for some folks, alright! Maybe we should use petroleum distillates on the rest???

Joewr...or was that Ojewr...of Wojer...how could I forget?
