Hi,
Is 22" the standard length for an octo in a necklace with a singles BP/W setup? Or do I want something longer with singles?

Hi,

"It depends"

The length you need is whatever length allows you to turn your head completely to the left and doesn't loop out too much.

Usually for something like a MK25 where you can use the "bottom" port, I think 22" often works. For something shaped more like an Apeks, you might need something a little longer like 24"

as limey said it depends on how much hose is "wasted" with bends as it exits the 1st stage. i don't know of any 1st stages needing more than 24", some can work well with 22"

what regs do you have?

thanks. I have the mares abyss. There are two LP ports on the right side of the 1st stage, both lined up horizontally (so there's a front and back LP port). The primary comes out of the back port since it's 1/2" and the secondary comes out of the front port. Not sure if that makes a difference. Also, going to get miflex hoses, so they should be able to bend pretty tightly. Would you go with the 22" then? (I'm probably going to buy online, so I won't be able to try them on).
Oh and it's a yoke first stage btw if that makes a difference. (I might convert to DIN at somepoint, but now now).

I would skip the milflex hoses. a) their long term durability is iffy, esp. the HP version b) the 7ft long primary is floppy and many people have griped about that. C) they really are a solution to a problem that doesn't exist on single tank rigs. A few doubles setups may benefit from them but its rare.

I've an Apeks DS4 on my single tank, LP ports are stacked up/down. 22" is too short, but not a real problem for the single tank-type diving that I do. Try before you buy if you can.

I use a 22" hose on my DS4 with singles. Seems fine to me. Of course comfort is a very subjective thing.

Extremely pedantic I know, but to be precise, the low pressure ports on a DS4 are staggered.

I use a 22" on my Mk17 in singles, no problems yet. Also, my LP hoses are miflex and I like how they perform. Several others on the board like their miflex hoses a lot as well, the LP versions at least.

Peace,
Greg

AAAAHHHHHH!!!! I'm never wrong!

I'll go and check my rig pre-dive tonight. Maybe I'll switch ports and be super happy with my 22" hose. Nice!
