I have been diving for about 6 years, but only recently have started diving the California coast, and the Monterey Bay. I have encountered a problem with my hood, it keeps filling up with air. does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent this?

I heat a nail up and put a small hole in the top of the hood. If you use a heated nail, this melts the edge around the hole and it will not fray. The hole will allow trapped air to exit your hood.

You might try making a small hole at the top of the head to allow any air that gets in to vent. I assume the air is from the exhaust from you regulator...how is it getting into your hood?

If your mask skirting is under the hood (it usually is) then exhaling through your nose can add air to your hood. I have that problem with my dry suit.

Could be but...Everyone I dive with has a hole in thier hood. As I dive with them I see air coming from the holes they put in all their hoods. It may be air that is forced from your mask going into your hood. Hard to say.

I think everyone has the right answer as far as putting a few small holes in the hood. Another thing to do is then sew in a neaopreme patch over those holes with some holes in the patch that are offset from the holes in the hood. The result is no air trap and no heat loss. All of the high end hoods have this design, and the cost for them to burn holes in the hood- about an extra $40 tacked on for that briliant engineering solution. Do it yourself and you will get the same result. Good luck

PS I get air in the hood from my bubbles and not from my mask.

Thank you all for your help, hopefully on my next dive my head won't be all bubbly and floaty
