And another question I should have asked about all of these: do they pitch you forward on the surface like my Covert does? I know, I know, this has been discussed ad nauseum, I'm just trying to determine if one of these would be a little less pitchy than my Covert, which I kind of have to fight on the surface. Thanks.

the ST elite does not pitch you forward unless you over inflate it.

Hmmm, good to know, maybe that's the way to go, just without the pockets and with a weight belt.

I'm seeing some not great reviews of the DiveRite Hydrolite on Amazon, seams coming apart, etc. Anyone have insight on that? And re the stainless steel backplate, need this to be light for travel so need to go aluminum or carbon. Any other backplates/wing setups I should be considering?

Many thanks.
Stainless plate about 5lb, aluminum around 2lb, dry weight so 3 lb pacing weight difference but the 5 lb stainless gives you nearly 5 lb negative buoyancy (displacement vs weight) and the Al just over a pound, the stainless is just better in this regard. You can also get skeletonized stainless. If a few pounds really matters go soft plate or plastic but you’ll need weight pouches to make up the difference.

@lexvil oh wow you obviously know waaaaaay more about this stuff than me. I think I get your point and the stainless certainly is more efficient, if I'm following, but I do need to min travel weight. Is there a soft plate or plastic plate set up you like? Thanks!

Finally, I assume installation of my Atomic SS1 with its attendant bespoke hose would not be an issue?
Wings normally do not come with remote exhaust on corrugated hose. Don't know where Central is, but if you're in USA. DGX can tell you which dump will fit.

On second thought, your existing remote exhaust may thread onto new wing just fine. (But if different threads, now you know where to look.)

Just start by looking here
This is a place to gather confusion because there are so many options but try to focus on the options without locking in yet.

I’ve come to the conclusion that for my needs I just use stainless and cut back on 3 lbs of extra stuff I don’t need, like a third pair of shorts, anymore than 3 or 4 shirts (no one will notice or care if you wear the same thing to dinner every night and even if the do in few days you’ll likely never see them again. Extra shoes are also something people overdo.

Here are some soft package deals
It all seems complicated but it’s really not
