Saturday we set off out of Cabrillo Launch and headed for Catalina. The Marine Layer has been thick all week and Saturday was no exception. We sighted the island from about 3 miles out and not a second sooner. We hooked around the North side and headed south down the west side of the island. Had never been to that spot yet but was eager to try out my new anchor from West Marine. (My old one is somewhere around Cabrillo Campsight) Found a semi protected spot and set the hook. When I dropped in off the side of the boat I lost my mask (forgot to hold it..duhh) and had to have my buddy toss me my spare from the boat. We dropped down to 60ft and grabbed it before setting off. Saw lots of nice size Sheepshead and Calicos and had a great dive. I love weaving thru the kelp while cruising. That side of the island was really nice it turns out.
We set off to the East Side expecting to find better conditions and were disappointed for sure. The wind was actually worse on that side and we had wished we stayed for the second our second dive. We saw some friends that were spearing just south of twin harbor's and set the hook. Had a killer dive there with so many fish everywhere it was epic. A couple 200lb Black Sea Bass took to inspect us at 60ft and rather took me by surprise. They were so freaking huge it could have swallowed my head mask and all. Very impressive. They did a couple circles around us as we moved thru the area and then they were gone. After we hit 1000lbs we headed back and I saw one of them again. They tottally made that second dive,my day, and my weekend. My buddy got a pic i will post here when he it from his cam.

Went to Palos Verdes today out of San Pedro and was planning to dive 2 tanks. Well....after tank one cruzing in 52 deg water at 35 ft, we were F'n done man. Froze our ass of for real. Cracked a couple beers and had some beef jerky before we called it a day and retreated back to poolside here at my house in Anaheim.
Pics soon

Yeah dude 52 F. We saw some dudes jump in not far from us with spearguns while in spring suits. They had to be feeling it, and were out of the water in 20 min.
