I read an article that suggested putting small holes in your booties to help the water run out of them. Anybody out there do this, and is it worthwhile?

No, not necessary, and won't work very well. After a dive, just take them off. It is a good idea, however, to put a small hole in the top of a hood or beanie to let the air out.

i almost cried when i put holes in my hood, to release the trapped air, don't think i could handle doing it to my booties.

Where I normally dive it is best to leave on some kind of footwear during the SI. I have been leaving my boots on but of course they are full of water and cause my feet to be pickled!

I would not think that adding a small hole in the back near the heal would allow any water flow to defeat the purpose of the wet suit, but still allow the water to drain when you put your feet up.

Guess I'll the first one to do this and try it out. Got a dive this Saturday and an extra set of boot to try it on!!

I'll get back on this thread and let you all know what the results were.

LOL My booties (notice the 'ies' indicating plural) came with holes as a feature. 2, nail size in the rubberized part.
I’m in the tropics though.

My booty has a hole too. It came that way. Water doesn't come out of it very often though, not out of my booty. Every once in a while, air or something bubbles out, so I agree that it's a good idea to let your booty vent.

I never really thought about it but it sounds like a good idea.
I think I'll try it but I'll make sure I do it in the rigid part of the heel because if it doesn't work I'll be able to seal it up again easily with sealant.
A possible alternative would be to make the hole just a little higher where the fin strap would seal it while diving but it would be clear while on the boat.

PS. Just had a thought. Might not be such a good idea for beach divers though - let the sand in?

A very keen observation...however, I really think that the conditions and the environment would play a key role in just how desireable/appropriate it may be to vent.

I was wondering how long it would take for the originator of the My Booty Stinks thread to jump in here. ;)

I think I'll let my drysuit booties alone.
