Holding a GoPro on a dive

I do not head strap due the bubbles from your regulator going up in front of the lens. I made a mount using the tripod mount, a 1/4 stainless bolt and nuts, a 1/2 inch pvc end cap and pvc cut to your liking with some bunge added with a hole for a wrist strap. Maybe $10 total with most of that in the gopro tripod mount.

I just bought one of these: Gear Keeper RT4-4112 Std RETRACTABLE CB Ham Radio MIC Holder on eBay! and figure I will attach it to the GoPro to my BC so I do not have to worry about holding it all the time. I have not seen anyone else discussing doing this before anywhere, so I'm just curious if I'm missing something? Is there a reason to not do this? I know it's not going to help me hold it while shooting video, I just don't want to worry about holding it when not in use.

Stanw not sure how that one will deal with rust, I use a couple of retractable leashes off old diving torches one is very similar to that one from a princeton tec torch but I dont know if they are made with different materials to deal with the salt water or not.

I always use one with my tray or other handheld mounts so I can let it go if I need both hands free.

I have been looking all over the net, and I think I found the best hand held pole for the Go Pro's:

Ok so I just ordered mine from fastcap, I will post some pics and let everyone know what I think about it when I get it. I think I will love it though as the guy above who sells it, uses it extensively himself for diving......!

I'm looking for ideas on how to hold my Hero2 for an upcoming dive. I have a headstrap, though I'm thinking of not using it and instead finding some way to just hold it during a dive to have better control of what I'm shooting video and pics of. I have thought of all kinds of ideas like using the tripod adapter and one of these things (I already own one) Joby Gorillapod at REI.com to make it easier/possibly to hold.

1. besides buying a rig or building one myself, what would you recommend?
2. Any ideas for strapping the GoPro to me or my BC so when I'm not using it I don't lose it?

I almost ordered one of those,. but then found the one I posted that is highly adjustable and stainless steel......9-43" seemed perfect to me to be compact or as long as I need it in an instant. I Like how on the stick above they molded the GoPro fitting into the stick. Nice touch and saves you $12 or so on the tripod mount!

When I first started using my Gopro when diving I had the head strap. After watching the first video I shot I was dizzy! I found I'm constantly moving my head around looking at stuff. The constant movement isn't a recipe for good video. The remainder of that trip I just held the head strap in my hand. The video turned out much better.

My wife has since bought me the Backscatter GoPro Starter System with Sola 500. Just got back from Bonaire a couple weeks ago. I love this setup!!! The video was great! Only thing I lack at this point is the red filter. I highly recommend this gear.
