Howdy all! I just spent a week in Cozumel - I went down not even thinking about diving...and I ended up making the decision to get my open water my second day there. It took four days of my vacation, but it was the best thing I've ever done. After training, I got to do four boat dives of some of Cozumel's most famous reefs including Palancar Gardens and a wall dive to 105 feet at Santa Rosa!!! Incredible!!!! I now have the bug and am planning on getting Wreck and Drysuit certified so I can do some Great Lakes dives.

Where in MN are you from? I'm from Fargo/Moorhead, but I do make it down to the cities quite a bit since our family is from there and we shoot a few weddings down there every year.

I did my drysuit class last year and I'm happy I did. It will come in handy if you want to continue to dive as much as you can around this area. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty to dive in a wetsuit but the drysuit opens up a lot of possibilities too.

Give me a PM if you ever want to try and dive.

Hi from Wisconsin! (La Crosse area) Cozumel is great! I am going there next Thursday!

Glad that you enjoyed your time there, and your introduction to diving.

Have fun! Be safe.

Hey Arkman! I'm from Maple Grove, a NW suburb of Minneapolis. Thanks for the input on the drysuit cert. I figured since we enjoy about 2 months of decent weather *sarcasm* here in MN, I'd better get it if I want to enjoy some more diving time. Do folks ever dive through the ice? Is that a special cert.?

Hi Scubashine, it was really tough coming back. It is beautiful at the surface....now that I've seen the world underneath, I know I was really missing out! Enjoy the trip!

Hey CZM. Yeah, there are a lot of folks that do ice diving. Actually one guy I went out with this year dives almost exclusively ice diving. There is a special certification for that as well. Don't quote me but I think ice diving is almost a solo activity in a way. You hold on to or are connected to a line and have someone above the ice tending the line but you dive alone. Again, I could be wrong. I wanted to do it this winter but I felt like I needed a little more normal dive time and drysuit time before I did that.

I'm originally from Coon Rapids, so not too far from Maple Grove. A good friend of mine from college is from there too.

I think that as long as you are not a big freeze baby you can dive in a 7mm farmer john from early May (some people even right after ice out) until I'd say middle of October.

I'll send you a PM too.
