We've been diving our Hogarthian setup (BP/W, long hose) with drysuits and we're setting off on a trip to warmer waters, where we'll be wearing 3mm wetsuits.

Approximately how much should we tighten our straps for this trip? Clearly we'll have to tweak it as we go, but how much do you think we should start with?

Thanks,

Bill

That's highly variable, Bill ... since it depends on type of drysuit/undergarment and your overall body size.

What I'd recommend is to mark the webbing where it sits now (for your cold water setup), then don your 3 mm wetsuit, make adjustments as needed for comfort, mark them, then put it back on the cold water settings until you're ready to leave. Keep in mind that adjustments made on dry land, and without a tank, will get you close, but you might need to tweak after a dive or two.

I've found I leave mine the same for wetsuit or dry suit diving but I think I'm generally less picky than a lot of people. Probably not the best thing but it saves time, since I dive both quite frequently.

For not too much money, you could get the DSS attachment for the harness. It makes adjustments very easy.
Halcyon has the Cinch system but its quite a bit more expensive, I believe. I recently got the Halcyon rig ( actually my husband surprised me with one) and it is really nice.

Thanks Bob. We don't own wetsuits, that's why I am asking; otherwise we'll have to do it all in the shop when we arrive or on the boat. I'd like to get close if I can before we get out there.

Good idea to make them now! Any suggestions for what to mark them with that will last?

Depending on the color and type of your webbing ... either a Sharpie or a paint pen will work.

I don't find it necessary to shorten shoulder straps between diving drysuit at home vs 3mm or even t-shirt in tropics. If it is a bit loose, I just tighten crotch strap a little.

Me too, although I tighten the crotch strap a fair amount for warm water, and have to tighten the waist harness a little. My partner on the other hand goes from the Michelin woman in a drysuit to a skinny thing in a wetsuit and needs her shoulder, waist straps, and crotch strap adjusted.

Rental wetsuits...ewwww...although when I travel to France this summer I am going to rent a wetsuit and a poodle jacket most likely to cut down on baggage weight. Can I get split fins with that order?
