I am looking for a hog harness that also has a left hand quick release at the shoulder. Does anyone know of such a thing? I don't want a whole fangled "deluxe"/"comfort" harness - just a hog with a QR. Anyone seen one?

Easy to make with a quick release buckle - cut strap and install. This sort of defeats the entire purpose though, and won't really be any easier to get out of if the hog harness is adjusted properly.

yep.. easy to make.. but it wont be HOG anymore...

Just out of curiosity, why do you want a quick release? To answer your question, I have never seen a Hog harness with a quick release. :palmtree: Bob

I put one on with out cutting the harness. That way if the clip did break you still have a continues harness that is just a little loose on one side. Really does make it a lot easier to get out of. I may have a link somewhere if I can find it I will post it.

Found a pic. I did mine a little different but very similar.

The problem is that you can't trust the friction buckles or the fastclips to stay closed. I've seen both pop open when a diver got tumbled at Monastery. If you really need to have a closure device of some sort here's what we used at Berkeley, a set of double stainless steel twist locks. I've never heard of a failure, they're easy to install, and you can get them at any canvas shop.

Put your own buckle in there. Why is this a problem? I have several otherwise ordinary Hog outfits except for the buckle, stainless steel, in the left shoulder loop. I do this because my left shoulder was badly damaged in a motorcycle accident many, many years ago and has limited movement in some directions. The added buckle makes it very easy to get into and out of my harness withlout having to flex my shoulder. I like it, I don't care if others do or not. I have been diving long enough to know what works and when there is justification for it.

For many years conventional harness rigs had snaps, twist locks or buckles in the left shoulder. If it were to come loose it is not problem and will not result in loss of control of your rig. If you want one then put it in, you may need to start over with a fresh piece of webbing however since you will need at least six inches of overlap or maybe a bit more to get the buckle in and have sufficient grip.

If you go with snaps you will need three heavy duty marine snaps, if you use twist locks you can find them at awning shops and marine suppliers, you will need two sets. A stainless or plastic buckle works well for me. Good luck.

Obviously, I have my reasons for wanting one (similar to Nemrod's). The benefits outweigh the negatives. I'm not that worried.

Nice idea r2t. I like that it provides some extensibility without compromising continuity. I suppose it sticks out a bit in front though - or does it lie flat when under load?

I realize could just cut a harness and put a release in there. I was just wondering if anyone makes one that is sewn in place. I've seen them back in the day - just not recently (it seems they are out of fashion these days).

The Dive Rite TransPac harness or the DSS "Pro" harness arent what you are looking for? I have the DSS and the convenience of the quick release is very nice especially on a boat when I have to put the rig both on and off quickly while guiding. I have gotten to the point where I buckle the left side after I pick the rig up and slide it onto my right arm, makes putting gear on very nice on a crowded boat where room is a consideration.
