I was looking over the manuals for the hog and deep6. Is seems the factory diaphragm for the hog d1 and d3 (grey black) needs a thrust washer vs the replacement diaphragm (all black). Does anybody have insight into this? The deep6 appears to come with the all black diaphragm. Also is the all black diaphragm available as a trident part?

All the HOG diaphragms need a thrust washer. The new all black diaphragm is not the same as the one that came out shortly after the line did. That diaphragm was thicker and is no longer in the kits. It was smooth.
The new all black one is textured and thinner than the replacement one from a few years ago. Your instructor should have covered this.
The Deep Six 1st stage does not use the washer.
I'd be surprised if Trident had the part and if it was even the correct one. Replacing either with a Trident part is not recommended or even advised.
Using the wrong thickness or material could cause a catastrophic failure.
