Just wondering if anyone who owns the black edition of the Hog 2nd can comment on how well the black holds up. I ask as I currently dive Apeks FSR/XTX50s and when inverted it breathes terribly and have seen others report the same thing so am toying with the idea changing the 2nds to HOG. Cheers.

just as a FYI the hogs tend to breath a little wet upside down too due to the design of the exhaust valve. I have a black version for my deco bottle but honestly have not used/abused it enough to give you any feedback on how well the finish stands up.

I also use the D2 for my deco reg. Seems to hold up fine, but I've not put an enormous amount of pressure on it as I'm not that deep that often. Is the question about the aesthetic finish or the durability of the regulator? I'm not completely sure, but if the D2 second stage is no different than the D1 second stage (save for the finish) then durability shouldn't be an issue.

Im guessing reg durability is the same, its just I have some black (anodized) lights and they look real ratty real quick, so just wondering from an aesthetic point of view. Cheers.

A little wet I don't mind, but both my XTX50s breathe terrible, not just wet but like they are "hunting" for gas they, stuttering .

Can't say I've had that problem and I have a few sets of XTXs... they'll breathe a little wet in some positions but nothing like what you're describing... are you using the wide or narrow exhaust T? Have they been serviced? What's your IP?

I dive Hog D1's which are the same as the D2's just a different color. I like looking through the kelp forests on my back when I dive so I spend at least a bit of time on my back every dive. The D1's are still comfortable inverted. Don't get me wrong, they still breathe much harder when inverted but its not hard enough to be uncomfortable, they just breathe that nicely when not inverted.

My regs also have their adjustment knobs all the way to as detuned as you can get, even then it still breathes more easily than I need but I'm not complaining.

As of 1 Sept HOG second stages will be shipping with a re-designed exhaust diaphragm to make it less likely to allow water seep in when in certain positions.

If you have an older HOG second stage and want to change to the new body I will have them in stock and the new body design is $10 retail. I imagine most if not all of my dealers would love to upgrade the body for you during a service

Good to know Chris, i'll probably swap the bodies out on my sidemount regs, but I dont spend enough time upside down in any other configuration to make it worth spending another $80.

$10.00 for a new body. I'll have to get some when they are in stock at Dive Rite in scuba.
Can you get me a good deal on some new knees , ankles, or a new right shoulder ?

Chris, I love how you stand behind your product.

Thanks, Jim Breslin
