In New jersey , Driving into oncoming traffic is only two points on your license but Following to close is Five.
Passing on the Right is 4 points.. But driving on the sidewalk is only 2.
And we voted for the idiots that came up with this.
BTW....there is a law still on the books that requires a person to walk in front of any motor vehicle with a lantern in hand as not to spook any horses.
Your state have any dumb ones?

Maybe because the former is kind of self-correcting...

But seriously, "driving on the sidewalk" probably doesn't mean doing like 45 mph, while pedestrians dive out of the way. Even in New Jersey? eyebrow I'd guess it means driving up onto the sidewalk, like to park. Or maybe using a sidewalk to get around a traffic jam.

If that's the case, I'd say that passing on the right is a lot more dangerous -- it blind-sides drivers who aren't expecting it, particularly when they're merging back into the right lane.

Of course, that assumes the other side of the coin -- keep right except to pass, which is certainly part of the law too.

Trying to apply logic to law just isn't logical.
