What is the history of the rebreather?

Thanks,

Dan

Karl Kramer has a good time-line with lots of links to info on particular rebreathers here.

and wikipedia has a pretty good concise history, with some interesting information. Like the 'cryogenic rebreather' and the 'rebreather whose absorbant releases oxygen.' I hadn't heard of those before.

The book "Mastering Rebreathers" by Jeff Bozanic has a very good chapter on rebreather history written by Shas Readey. She has one of the most complete libraries on the subject with an enormous amount of books, articles and manuals of civilian and military rebreathers, as well as several original units that came along over the years.

On the web, Janwillem Bech's Rebreathers Worldwide is the most complete collection of various rebreather types available, covering most countries and generations.
