Last evening Lance Mackey and his dog team won the Iditerod Sled Dog race when they ran into Nome after starting just outside Anchorage. Earlier he won the Yukon Quest Sled Dog race from Whitehorse YT to Fairbanks AK. Both are 1000 mile races.

This is the first time in history that the same person has won both races in the same year. What is also special is that he did it with essentially the same dog team for both races.

In this case he and 13 dogs from the Yukon Quest 1000 mile team started the Iditerod just 12 days after winning the Quest.

What a feat!

Tough races. Not that I have any experience running such races but what I read is they are tough. Congrats to the dogs as well !!!
