November 2006 "Highlights" has a nice story about a kid's first open water dive. The author, Susan Berk Koch, evidently knows scuba and did a good job of describing things in a way that a non-diving child could understand. A little bit of adventure in it, but not too scary.
Highlights is probably not on the regular reading list for most of you, but you might run into in someone's waiting room somewhere. Check it out if you come across it.
