Dumb question, but couldn't you use a reef hook (or maybe a tent peg with a clip ) to hold yourself in place?

reef hooks need something to dig into and aren't designed to be used as a stake, more a grappling hook.
Tent peg doesn't have anything to grab onto for driving it into the bottom and/or easy removal.

Screwdriver is ideal. Theoretically you could use a modified jon line or something clipped to the shoulder strap d-ring to anchor yourself in similar to a reef hook, but usually is unnecessary. you could drill a hole into the handle and make a loop on the screwdriver to clip to if you are concerned about dropping it.
