I doubt it would cause any harm to the light.

From another point of view I would try to keep it on the entire dive. You never know when you might need to signal your buddies for whatever reason or emergency that might crop up.

True, I tend to position my self to face my buddy on ascents but not a bad idea.

For ascents, just clip it off from the back of the light head (add a loop and use a double ender). That way, the light hangs down and won't blind your teammates. When you're actually done with the light (we tend to stow them at the 10' stop), turn it off, and use the bolt snap on the handle. Make sure to stow the light cord whenever it's clipped off.

Oh, on another note, my cave line snapped off from my goodman handle. The handle actually cut through the line. So should I tie two lines up or use the bungie loop? Is there somewhere that shows how you are supposed to tie the bungie? It isn't in my GUE books and since right now I'm not sure if I'll be able to take fundies til possibly november now since July is looking to be increasingly out =/ I'd like to at least get the configuration right.
