New here, although I've been reading/lurking for a few years, learning as much as I can.

I've been diving a handful of years, primarily in the Northeast US. I wanted to dive since childhood, but opportunity didn't present itself until later on in life. It came through a chance to get into underwater archaeology, since I've been working in the field on land few a few decades. Underwater archaeologists had tried to get me to dive when I was younger, but I couldn't afford the gear/lessons at the time, since my entire income at the time was my stipend and the grants I could write.

At this point, I'd say 90% of my diving has been doing archaeological work of some stripe, most of the rest was the dive classes.

So anyway, hello.

Congratulations!

As I have gotten later in life, and having also traveled extensively throughout the Yucatan, and viewed the magnificent works of the Maya, archaeology has become a post-retirement hobby.

If I could rewind, in lieu of architecture and urban planning, I wish I had chosen archaeology. To mix that with diving would simply be icing on the cake.

Hello fellow New Englander! Welcome to SB. Lots of good history here in Maine for UW archaeology. Let us know if you ever make it to the Mid-Coast area.

Thanks! I'm a specialist in the ancient Mediterranean, but have been working mainly in Mass and RI as UW goes. I got some diving in at Baia in Italy just before the pandemic and they shut the country down.

Hi, with which center did you dive with in Baia ?

Hi! I'm an early career archaeologist (I just got my masters in 2020) who specialized in the ancient Mediterranean as well. I'm about to start a second master's in maritime archaeology this fall. I was wondering if you would be willing to share your experiences working in underwater archaeology?

Are you employed through a university or an archaeological society? I'm really curious about how employment in this field works since I'm about to start down this particular pathway.
Thanks!
