I am getting back to diving after many years. I started in college (Western Illinois University)with a course that ran the quarter. I updated while living in Pensacola, Florida but stopped diving when we moved back to Tallahassee. When I took my refresher two years ago, I found all of the gear had really changed. Lots of stuff but the increased safety seems worth the expense. It didn't get any lighter weight, though. I'm looking forward to getting in some more open water before the oil destroys the environment that I love.
