Victor,

Can you give some more info about those East coast islands. Where did you dive and which places would you recommend? Do you have any URLs for the resorts / dive shops in that part of Malaysia? What was the visibility like?

Regards
Peter

I dived from 2 Islands Redang and Perenthian.
Here is a URL
www.starfish.ch/dive/Malaysia.html[/url]

Redang is a little commercial for me, the resorts are packed together and I did not enjoy the ambience, however the diving was great. It was my first time in the water for over a year, the guides were good, the boat uncrowded, distances short, all in all the diving made up for the resorts.
Perenthian was fantastic. The visibility could have been better, however only the wreck had poor visibility. Beautiful suroundings, short boat rides, warm water, very relaxing and great fun. I will be back.
Compared with the Caribean costs are much less. However nothing I have dived has matched Bonaire yet. Next time Sipadan is planned.

Gee, I didn't expect so many replies to my little "hello" thread. I am glad to know that so many divers are so friendly. Thanks y'all.

Thanks Lauren, for the links to related Malaysian diving thread.

Peterbkk, I have only dived in three places so far - did my OW dives in a little known island called Pemanggil and Aur (off Dayang). Aur had fantastic visibility on that day - the waters were crystal clear, which inspired my nick. Visibility in Pemanggil was not good compounded by the fact that we were all beginners thus kicked up a bit of a "sandstorm", heh. Fortunately, the reef were grouped in clumps so the reef was not too badly damaged, I hope. The last island that I dived was Redang. It was pretty gorgeous over there. The next trip I hope to make is to go diving in Pulau Dayang as I haven't seen all the good stuff there yet.

Thanks for the tip, Victor. Can you remember the name of that dive shop in Ampang? Would really appreciate it.

Aww, thanks murphdivers288 for the invite. If I ever head over to Florida, I will give you a shout.

The shop is called Ocean Explorer www.oceanexplorer.com
Ed Dman posts on this site quite frequently, he has posted some great pictures.
I am hoping to be back out there at the end of the summer, where to dive will be an issue. post some reports on where you get to.
Have fun and blow some bubbles.
