I have been reading the posts on the board for a couple of weeks and find this board to be a very valuable resource. I figured it was time I became fully registered and more actively participate.

Hi Alan and Welcome! :)

If you've been reading for weeks, you probably found it already, but just in case - be sure to check in on your local dive club forum: ScubaBoard.Com > Regional Travel & Dive Clubs> North America> United States> California Kelp Divers> SoCal - after an extensive Google map search to confirm that you're in southern California. I don't know the area between LA and San Jose well, bu then - you probably don't know the Texas Panhandle well, either?

PM me if I can help around here someway? ;)

don :cowboy2:

BTW, did you know that the lone star on your state flag was paterned after the one on the Texas flag? But then, we got it from the Bonnie Blue flag orginally flown in Florida and used many times across the south. "Historic Bear Flag raised at Sonoma on June 14, 1846, by a group of American settlers in revolt against Mexican rule. The flag was designed by William Todd on a piece of new unbleached cotton. The star imitated the lone star of Texas. A grizzly bear represented the many bears seen in the state. The word, "California Republic" was placed beneath the star and bear. It was adopted by the 1911 State Legislature as the State Flag. [Source: California Blue Book.] "

Woo Hoo, Got another one out of the shadows :D

BTW, welcome (Scub)aBoard! :happywave
The Bonnie Blue of southern heritage, living on today in North Carolina's and Texas' flags. :35: I hung it up outside the motel in Atlantic Beach NC once, and some locals asked what it was. But that happens here too...
