I live in California. I got certified about 30 years ago yet I've only been on about 10 dives over the years. I'm here to hopefully find some basic equipment

Welcome. You're in a populous coastal state known for boat and shore diving, so I imagine the used gear market should have quite a bit to offer. Bear in mind a used regulator you might want to get serviced, and used tanks hydro.d, so factor that into your cost deliberation.
