Hi! My name is Calle and i live in Sweden. I go to a school named AWPE(Advanced Wildland Prepareness Education) where Scubadiving and freediving is a part of the education. In about 1-2 years we are going to go on an expedition some where in the world (Probably Asia somewhere). And i was wondering if anybody knew any good places where it's not to expensive to dive but still have amazing marin life? :)

Hi, I am new here too.

I used to dive on Guam. It's not very expensive, but it might be expensive to get there (and I am not sure it's the best for marine life). Personally, I was more interested in the WWII wrecks.

I've heard Thailand is a great destination with a lot of sealife, but I've never been there myself.

Welcome to the board.

Marine life is abundant and varied world wide, as are costs.
Airfare may be the biggest actual cost :-)

Some recommendations:
Greater Barrier Reef: Live aboards are good diving values
Cozumel: Get a all inclusive package, my perference is Scuba Club
Roatan: Get a all inclusive package, I've stayed at Fantasy Island but would try else where next trip.
Hawaii: While not cheap there are some good dives.

Sinai and the Red Sea is probably one of the cheapest places to dive and there are convinient flights from Europe. And the weather is always beautiful!

Welcome!

Adam

Thanks for all the tips :) I appreciate it. But as Codiak suggested to get an all inclusive package is probably not an option... I have to conclude other cost that we have for things like mountenering, riding bicycles and maby visiting some old building with culture herretige.
and our starting budget is about 1400$ per person.
but please keep giving me suggestion it's really helpful :)

thanks :)

P.s.The expedition would get allot easier if we had some sponsors to provide us with equipment and stuff:-) do you have any tip how to get sponsors?

/ Calle :-)

And i forgot to mention the expedition should be for period of 3 weeks :-)

There are so many great places in the world to dive...that once you find out...do some searches online for the local shops (to get air and replace parts if needed), local top places to eat (don't just enjoy the life below the water), and best places to experience the locals.

At different places in the world I had a blast diving after I went to the local shops and asked where they like to go and what their fav spots were. Had some of the best food ever, and was blown away by how great the locals were as I sat and dined or drank the night away with them listening to strange stories (most were more comical because I had no idea what they were saying, but the gestures they made...made me laugh for hours.

Have a blast and welcome.

Sounds like more than a dive trip is desired.

3 weeks on $1400?

Hmmm, carvan / backpacking comes to mind... Of course if you need to rent a car, well you'd starve ;-)

Or you could look at the the modern day version, Cruising:
Find the closest port and see what deals they have... if you avoid the ship sponsered shore excursions you can save a lot of money booking yourself.

Might be better than relying on Air Travel in Europe over the next few months

Well yes it's kinda more than a diving trip. We are a sort of wildlife school so we want to do things like hicking, riding bicycles, studying the inviroment och ofcourse Diving and studying the marin life :-). The budget i said earlier is just that starting budget that we get from the school. Then we are supose to gather more money by doing all kinds of thing like selling cloths and food. but we are also supose to get sponsors for different things like cloths we may need and other equipment.
you may think that the school would pay for all of it but our program is not the main one. the main one is a program where you learn to fight forest fires and all different kinds of things that have something to do with fire and they are the one getting the most money...

But as i said dont mind a budget it's flexible :-) Thanks again
