I am fairly new to scuba diving, just certified in 2001 and I live in the Richmond VA area. I am trying to get my advanced certification this fall. If you have any tips or suggestions, send them on.

Welcome to the board! You might want to look in the Basic Scuba Discussions or the New2Scuba threads for lots of discussion about the AOW class. It's not very difficult, and it gives you a chance to do a few interesting things with an instrucor in tow.

I don't know what your level of experience is, but I strongly recommend taking a rescue class at some point. It really helped me improve my self- and buddy-rescue skills.

Best wishes and safe ascents,
Grier

Hi and welcome to scuba board, great place to spend out of water time. . I don't have a lot of tips - but the navigation stuff in AOW certaintly taught me to trust my compass, so go for it.

Suggestions? Get your AOW & Nirox now, and go out on the NC wreck with me in 2 months...

Welcome Aboard!!!

It's addictive, but who cares?!?!?

Good friends and good info. What could be better???

aloha and welcome,

Maybe you should plan a vacation where you do an Advanced Open Water class during the trip. Now you have a reason to go somewhere exotic and you have something very valuable and rewarding to look forward to. The AOW class really is pretty easy, not as difficult as your Open Water class was. Then when you're ready, do that Rescue Class. It's important to know and simple to learn.

Aloha and happy diving!
