or any other fish expert..
i was retreaving some marker buoys today that had been out all summer...
they had ALOT of groth on them.... not the normal slime, but these pods that varied in size the biggest i saw about 2" long with a tough outer skin, but pop and where full of water..
also these clear pods of a slightley different shape... and in alot of them looked like fishes. like eggs? what kinda fish has eggs this time of year, and why are the on a buoy line and not.. somewhere else...

in a few places it was so thick with growth that the diamater of the mess was about a foot...
a whew dont it smell like nasty fish too....

I think you are describing Ciona intestinalis or some other kind of sea squirt.

Well, there are just too many Heathers around here... :D

I doubt Ray was aware that my first name is Heather until somebody just let it slide :shakehead Besides I also answer to Gidds in the "real" world, it's my old college nickname.

Now I suppose you want a scientific explanation as to why sea squirts smell fishy even if they aren't fish?

Are you sure fish don't smell ascidianish? :06:

Yes I am. Hint: the answer to the great fish smell question has to do with HUFAs and PUFAs and phytoplankton :geek:
