Update. New battery needed in both the computer and transmitter. Cost $33. So I guess I have to budget about a buck a dive just for battery replacement.

Replacement weight pockets not in yet. I am told there will be no cost involved.

I know on my Vyper 2 when I set it to dive mode it flashed and tells me Battery OK, quick look through the manual of the Vyper Air is shows both batteries , computer and transmitter, being user replaceable. a quick google search found me both battery kits, computer at 9.50 and transmitter at 12.99. Belive it is recomened to change them once a year. Hard to say how long the vyper air had been setting in your LDS but I assume that you find the battery life is much longer this time.

Thanks for this thread as it has reminded me to change out the batteries in both mine and the wifes computers. :D

Dive more often and change the batteries yourself and I think that cost will drop to something insignificant.

In the big picture, I think you're whining over some pretty small stuff and have received stellar support from both your LDS and AL.

Still no replacement weight pocket after 12 days since I called this in.

Yes, I am being treated fairly by my LDS which I have clearly stated. My complaint is of the quality of the merchandise for the price paid and for what it is used for.

I will update the board on the status of the warranty procedure.

The weight pockets were returned to the dealer today and 2 new ones have been ordered at no charge. There is a very clear difference between the color of the handles with the one that has broken being of a darker color. I am told it will be sent back to the manufacturer to look at it.

The transmitter has been returned and the dealer is going to take it apart and look at it. No charges as of yet for that.

My issue is that this equipment is relatively new, approximately 6 months old, stored out of the sunlight and had approximately 50 dives on it. The gear is very well taken care of and has been used in dives from an air temp of 20F and a water temp of 34F to an air temp of 88F and a water temp of 78F.

The weight pocket handle issue is of a very serious concern since the purpose of them is to be able to remove them in an emergency. Something as potentially serious as this should have been better engineered. I am not very confident in the weight pockets working when needed. This is sort of like a having an airbag in a car fail during a head on collision. With the price of gear today there is no reason for issues like this to happen on life support equipment..

I am being treated fairly by my LDS. No question there. Please keep in mind that this is life support equipment and I am expecting a higher standard of quality than what I got. When a company purchases others, they are branding themselves into the new acquisition. The transmitter issue may simply be a batter gone bad early. Who knows? The BC is a complete disappointment for the cost and the hype that came with the marketing.

The LDS should have eaten the charges for the batteries on the computer but that was their choice not too. THEY should have better customer relations than that and I'm sure AL would have replaced the batteries for them. Since I worked at an AL shop for a few years I know they do guarantee their products.

You stated on April 7th that the weight pockets had been taken to your LDS and new pockets ordered that day. Hmmmm, on my calendar, today is only 10 days. Most shops don't order warranty replacements until they get the defective product in hand. Not trying to bust your chops but just relax a bit. I'm sure it will be taken care of. If not, contact the AL rep here on the board. I met Tom a number of years ago and I'm sure he'll help out.

Hmmm, the day the pocket broke, April 3rd I called it into my shop. I am wrong, it is not 12 days, it is 14. The pockets had already been ordered before I took them back. Sorry for the confusion.

How do you know they were ordered? Unless backordered, such items have rarely been more than 5 days out. This is an issue that a good lds could have resolved by spotting defective materials before selling them to you or providing you a replacement when the defect was detected. These are the things which give shops an edge over the Internet. If they aren't supporting you, why would anyone support them?

I respectfully disagree with you on this one Dave, or at least half-way do. If the pocket had a visable flaw on it, then yes, the LDS should have caught it. If the flaw was internal or the handle wasn't molded correctly then it would be a hard catch for the LDS. It would be like buying a set of tires for your car and the tread separating. Not a great lot of external signs of that before running them a while.

I can only assume they were ordered because I was told they were ordered.

Confusion over come. They may or may not have ordered them until you showed up with the pocket, but if they said they did they should have. They also could have given you a new pouch from an new bc if you need it right away then replaced them when they recieve them. If you haven't heard something in a couple of days, get hold of Tom Phillips (AL rep onboard). I'm sure he'll help you out.

I took the pockets back until the new ones come in. I use a pair of channelocks to pull the broken one out when I need to change weight.
