Welcome to the board. Seems you've already had your question answered. One of the advantages of an AOW course is that you get to try some new things and decide if you'd like to take a specialty course in any of those areas. I haven't gotten around to my AOW Course yet. Maybe in September...

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

Sounds like you are on your way with some of the other answers you've gotten, so far. I learned to dive at a time when there was only one class, but from what I understand about an AOW class, it is basically an extention of your OW class. All of this info used to be included in one class and some feel that it should be done that way again. For what it's worth, if you feel comfortable in the water, don't wait. There are some valuable skills to learn that would probably add greatly to your diving enjoyment.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.

Welcome to the ScubaBoard! I took my AOW right after my OW (within a two month period) only because I needed more information. Then did my Nitrox, I could have and should have done it before my AOW, and with just a year and three months of me diving, I'll be a DiveMaster after my Physics written exam. Some people will argue the fact that you should get more dives under your belt before proceeding to the next level, I say if your comfortable in the water and feel like you need more knowledge, why wait.
Best wishes!
Vickie

spartanws6:
I am taking my cert dives over this weekend and I have been on this board for the last two weeks. All good stories and advice so from a newbie... keep it up! I am really excited about getting involved in this sport and look forward to a lot of diving in my future.
OK, this would not be a proper post without a question though... what would you all recommend as far as advanced certs? Between the AOW, wreck, deep, etc, I am not sure where to turn, and how many dives should I look at in between these certs. I am not comfortable with jumping from class to class without the experience ( I am in the service and am a big advocated of experience is the real teacher) thoughts?
Thanks again everone!
