I had an abdominal hernia repair about 15 years ago. It was, well, surgery. If I recall, recovery involved a few weeks of slowly increasing activity. It took many weeks before I felt normal again.

Was it laprscopic or full cut?

Dang, I don't remember. I'm guessing it was not laparoscopic, because of the long recovery time. Yeah, come to think of it, I have a faint scar about 1-1/2 inches or so long. So, yeah, they sliced me.

I had a hernia back in 2016 that popped as was putting on my dive gear from the back of my car. I put on my BC straps and pulled forward to stand and felt something tear. Later that night I felt around and there was a little bump inside my belly button area. Not much pain or discomfort.

I saw the doctor and scheduled a surgery. I had a cold-water dive trip coming up and the Dr said to do that trip before the surgery. My surgery (my first and only ever) was very quick and only needed a few stitches. They didn't even need to use the mesh often employed to shore up the area.

Recovery was pretty easy. I took like two pain pills and rested for a day or two then went about my normal business. I dove after about a month, local cold water with ~100lbs of gear. About the only extended impact was that I could not do pull-ups at the gym anymore as that really tugs on the abdominal muscles. After a year or so that no longer caused any problems.

I had groin pain, felt around and found it. So it's symptomatic. Went to ER to insure it was not strangled and they put in the referral to surgery. I know it will need to repaired since although small it's symptomatic. Just glad caught early and small.

Had hernia surgery in 2010. It was the wife’s idea. I was just gonna tattoo the damned thing and call it Kuato.
The surgery was no problem, but the first week sucked. Laying down was impossible, because sitting back up gave me a good idea what giving birth must be like. Week two was just discomfort. By week three I was eager to get back to work, but my doctor wouldn’t clear me for full duty for a total of six weeks.
All in all only issue was the first week and I haven’t had any issues since.

I have a couple small incisions. Used some remote computer thingy. So I guess that’s laparoscopic, but I don’t remember. Couple small incisions

That laproscopic

I had an inguinal hernia with laparoscopic repair. It was done in January (a few years ago) as outpatient, was walking right away, some pain pills over the weekend, the following Monday I walked 4.2 miles (after work), and a few more 4 mile walks, the next week many more miles per day, and in March, a full marathon.

How about lifting?

That's the difference between laparoscopic and full incision, which is what I had. I couldn't walk at all for a day or so, then limped outside for short walks, and it was weeks before I could lift anything. I didn't dare lifting weights at the gym for months after the surgery. My doc didn't offer me any alternative type of surgery. @formernuke, if outpatient laparoscopic is an option, take it.
