Just when South Florida thought it was safe to put away the plywood, another tropical depression formed Monday afternoon in the Atlantic Ocean.
At 5 p.m., Tropical Depression 11, with winds of 30 mph, was located about 70 miles east-southeast of the island of Guadeloupe in the Lesser Antilles. It was moving west-northwest near 12 mph.
Forecasters said the depression could become Tropical Storm Jeanne on Tuesday.
A tropical storm warning was issued for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and tropical storm watches were issued for several other islands in the region, including the British Virgin Islands, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Marteen.
The National Hurricane Center's long-range forecast track brings the depression into the central Bahamas by Friday.
