OK Here is the deal. I am 27, 5'6" 291 lbs. I just went to the Doc and my cholesterol is 250 and tri's are 285. I need to get them lower. I am a manager so exercise time is a scarcity, but I am going to have to make time. So I guess I need to join this thread. (Wow I feel better already) It is kind of like an alcoholic coming out for the first time.
Thanks!
Ron

Good luck. I really mean it. I weighed 303 and had the same blood cholesterol level as you just a little over a year ago. Today my weight's 225 and the cholesterol is 140. Stick to the nutrition plan from your doctor and make the time to exercise. I like to swim myself, but walking's good too. Here's to your success!

Hey Ron - it's a wake up call. Now the choice is yours. With the encouragement of others on this board, I lost 35# last year, still some more to go, but I have started training for triathlons next summer. Something completely out of reach -- physically and mentally -- as of last May.

What changed it for me was the realization that, no matter how much I whined and bi**ed and moaned about being overweight, wasn't no one but me gonna do anything about it (apologies for the grammar :) ).

Time to take control

Chris

Congratulations! You've taken the first step. It IS sort of like coming out. Admitting you have to do something is the hardest part. 15 months ago I did the same thing and since then have lost 85 lbs.

You'll find the support from your peers here....we're with ya!

Ron, Hang in there bro. You didn't get to 291 overnight so don't plan on being 191 overnight either. My advice, being a dietitian is to ask your doctor for a referral to a dietitian. The dietitian will take your current lifestyle into consideration and set up a nutrition program to help you get where you need to go. If you need further specific advice feel free to PM me. I'm in the same boat. I weigh about 215 or so and need to be 190 but right now the motivation is not there. I've started working out so I'm headed in the right direction. But, my nutritional intake hasn't improved to what I know it can be. Join the fitness challenge and we'll all keep each other in check. Join us bro, we'll be successful together. Good luck, Greg

I'm not quite in the same boat, though my blood values are a little higher than I'd like, but I'd like to offer some encouragement anyway.

Definitely try walking everyday. Use your lunch hour and take a 30 min walk if you can, or walk when you get off of work for 30 min before heading home. Also try to eat 4 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones. Focus on healthy fruits and veggies for the main part of your meal and reduce the amount of pasta (carbs).

Most of us are not where we want to be by a long shot, but there's alot of good people here to offer support. And like the saying goes you took the first step just realizing you have a problem now just forge on a head and you'll thank yourself in the long run. Roger

ok how do I join. What do I need to do. Thanks for all the encouragement. Scuba friends are great!!!
