I've been working on my photography for four years and I STILL can't get my strobes aimed correctly!!! The lighting is under, over, in front of, behind the subject...once in a while I'm actually dead on because I'm lucky. I'm shooting with a Canon S95 in an Ikelite housing, two Inon S2000 strobes, ULCS arms. Thanks SO much for all suggestions!

This observation will not work for you unless you switch some gear?

I use s&s ys110 strobes with builtin focus lights.

When I turn the focus lights on, I always know where the strobes are pointed. Using my very keen 20/20 hindsight, one of the best strobe decisions I lucked into was to pick a model with builtin focus light

Failing that, do you routinely do an "instant photo review"?

- take a shot
- review it on your LCD (mine I set for an automatic 5 second display of last pic)
- note how I screwed up
- compensate
- take another shot of the same thing
- repete until okay pic or fish gets bored and leaves (or dive buddy pokes me in the side and we move on)

Sharkgal - you are using diffusers on your strobes, correct? Hitting the subject really shouldn't be an issue, this problem sounds very strange to me.. - Scott
