Ok, I figure this is pretty safe asking here. I am goin to Belize on a trip here pretty soon for snorkling for an entire week. I have to get a shortie and I am probably gonna get a 1 mm. When I went to try them on today, I was rather embarrased. I am 6'2 and about 140 lbs. I had a hard time deciding between a medium and a small sea elite. The small just felt like it was huggin me too tight, even though I didn't have much trouble gettin it in. This could just be me over thinking things. The medium was not as tight and even had a small wrinkle here and there. So my question comes, does it matter really how tight it is? Would I be better off gettin the small and having it fit like a second skin or stick with the medium.

Also another question I had is what do most people wear under their wet suit. I was thinking trunks, but there won't be much room I think so I was wonderin if I should wear my speedo under some trunks, and when I get ready to get in just lose the trunks.

Any help would be awesome.

It should be a snug fit - I wear my trunks under mine. They do stretch a lot. If it's loose (ie wrinkles) those are the spots that water will flow freely through and defeat the purpose of insulation. Like putting 3ft of fiberglass insulation in the attic, then leaving the front door open - the draft would defeat the purpose of the insulation. Wetsuits work best when they eliminate as much water flow across your skin as possible. Of course make sure you can breathe easily or you got other troubles then. I am currently wearing a 3mm wetsuit which is 1 size too small for me, but it stretches enough to fit comfortably.

FWIW - I wear a 1 mil full suit when snorkeling and am happy with it - they really stretch a lot! Mostly I wear it to avoid the occassional jellyfish and sunburn. I don't like wearing a shorty because I lose that protection.

Aloha, Tim
