After 200+ Caribbean dives it is time to venture forth.

We have 3 weeks and start out from western Canada.

What we would like...
  • lots of reef life
  • chance to see manta's and or a whale shark
  • option to shore dive even if only one location
  • good local food
  • safe to walk around at night
  • convenience to a 2nd island or hopping a liveaboard

What we do not need...
  • 4 or 5 star accommodation's or service, basic is ok
  • bars or discos or nightlife

If you are looking for some of the best diving that the South Pacific has to offer then go to either Solomon Islands, or PNG. OR BOTH!

We head there nearly every year, and keep going back. This september my Finance is going back to Maravagi Resort in Solomon Islands. It is a boat ride from Honiara (The Capital). Awesome, awesome, awesome! Mantas every day! Massive fish! Loads of fish! This is our 4 trip to the Solomons, and it will blow your mind. The accomodation is simple, the food is great island style with loads of local fruits. And the shore diving is where you can see mantas! Or a 2 minute boat ride arround the corner from the resort.

Also, you have the otion of doing some impressive WWII wrecks like the Arron Ward.

The resort is set on an Island, and is the only western thing on the island. There is a few villages there but no discos, not even streets to walk down. Honestly i love this place.

My Finance knows everything about Solomons diving and PNG. If you want any more information or help getting cheap bookings just let me know.

Yours Truly,
Carl Fallon

If you are set on a shore ops Thailand comes to mind. You can do Phuket or the other side Cos Samui/Tao. Of course there is Indonesia, Bali, Sulawesi, etc... But have you considered a live-aboard? Lots of options then for some really. We have done some South Pacific diving you can see trip reports and slide shows at our website.

There's not much shore diving in Thailand.

Palau ? Great reef life (lots of sharks), WWII wrecks in the harbour, Manta's at German Channel, no probs walking around at night, good food (and a great Indian Restaurant). Also you can stay in around Koror/Malakal, for a while then move down to Peleliu island, or jump on a liveaboard.
