I recently bought the Ultramax UXDS-1 strobe for my Panasonic TZ1 camera.
The reviews (whatever was available) were generally good and the price was right so I got it.

This is a well built strobe and has good power. The only down side is that the fiber optic cable attachment is not well designed and the cable keeps shifting. If you buy this strobe, then be advised that you will need to make your own connectors to attach the cable. Look for suggestions on how to do this elsewhere on this forum.

The strobe charging times are decent (about 5-6 seconds on 50% power). The strobe is positively buoyant and has sealed battery compartment. The batteries are bit-of-a pain to install. The cover has dual o-rings and it is very tight. Also, the control knobs are very close so you can't get a good grip on the battery cover.

I haven't taken any UW pictures yet (since I had to make my own connectors first). But looking forward to it.

For the price, this looks like a good entry level strobe.

Hi vimaldude I have the same strobe as you as well as the Intova version have used both now around 30- 40 dives with each strobe and have never had my cable move, I do wind the fibre optic cable around the the arm, using a
14" arm, the Intova strobe has a much firmer front rubber piece to keep the cable in place. my wife has had this problem as well she has a Intova strobe, she just makes sure it's in the right position before starting her dive did find the fibre optic cable were made as well as they could be.
