Help ScubaBoard flex it's muscle and help a good cause!

As some of you may know, fellow ScubaBoarder "RJP" has recently produced a commercial that will debut on the Super Bowl today during the second quarter.

The ad - entilted "Heart Attack" - is from a drug company, but it doesn't sell a drug. Instead it's part of a partnership with the American Heart Association and "sells" the AHA's high blood pressure website, encouraging people to go there to see if they are at risk of a heart attack.

I thought that I would bring this to the attention of ScubaBoarders to encourage people to vote for the ad as their favorite Super Bowl ad - assuming of course that it is your favorite - on a few of the on-line polls that will be rating Super Bowl ads.

There's a few good reasons to do this:

1.) To demonstrate that Scuba Board is an on-line community that can be mobilized! With more than 70,000 registered users we've been called the internet's 800lb gorilla. Let's show the scuba industry that when we flex our muscle, the impact is felt!

2.) To keep the discussion about the serious risks of heart disease going after the Super Bowl. If the ad is rated fairly well the media will have to keep talking about it. Nothing against beer, chips and other stuff advertised on the game, but heart disease is a bit more important to discuss.

3.) To keep RJP employed! Diving is expensive, and if the ad doesn't do well in the polls and RJP loses his job how will he pay for more gear and tank fills? (And if it DOES do well he'll have to mention ScubaBoard when he's interviewed in USA Today and The Wall Street
Journal!)

Remember - as they say in Chicago - "Vote Early. Vote Often."

Sorry for not putting an update here - I didn't realize Pete's post was put up on two forums (fora?)

Here's the response I put up a day or two after the Super Bowl on the other forum...

Thanks all who voted - even those who didn't like the spot!

Like everyone else, we got CREAMED by the dozen or so Bud ads in some of the bigger polls. However, in one of the better controlled polls - eg where 19yr old kids can't vote 9,000 times - we came in #12 out of 61 spots.

Also AdAge - the industry's paper of record - gave us 3 out of 4 stars...

King Pharmaceuticals
"Heart Attack"
A funny ad about a heart attack should be about as funny as a heart attack. But, turns out, it can be done-as thugs representing high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and cholesterol gang up on a poor schnook dressed up as a heart. Directs traffic to BeatYourRisk.com, where King and the American Heart Association close the sale.

Anyone who wants to see it again without making money for youtube or other sites can pop over here to watch it...www.kingpharm.com

Thanks again - Ray
