Good day all,

I dived a few times and loved it - now I want to get certified;

But I'd love to go on a sailing yacht or so in the Caribbean for about a week to do that. (because I'd also want to see if sailing is as fun for a week as it is for a day - as I want to sail for a year or so - maybe around the world)

Is there any place I can: go sailing / cruise like + dive + get certified?

Thank you all...

I second a look into Juliet, I haven't been diving with them but I paid a visit to the boat when she was docked near my hotel in Miami this spring, nice folks. Blackbeards and Cuan Law also come to mind as sailing charters. You should always keep in mind many "sailing" charters will often motor for a substantial portion of the trip. There is also Cat Ppalu and Promenade, though I haven't heard much about them and have no direct experience. Have fun getting certified.

Why not do your certification work locally and then you can fully enjoy the dives in the Caribbean instead of demonstrating skills?

You could probably get the certification course and the checkout dives done in the NY/NJ/PA while it is still warm enough.

Thank you, but looks like all of these places want the people to be already well certified :(

I certify, if I engage in diving activities, that I am a certified diver or a student. diver under the supervision of a scuba diving instructor and have...

Good point,

I've got to look into that - somehow I always thought that it is much more expensive to do it locally...

and it would make sense - since hourly wage / service / ... can be bought for cheaper in some places then others

so someplace in the Caribbean is much better then in NYC (me) or Tokyo (friend - she paid $800 what was normal at their rate)

e.g. List of countries by GDP (PPP) per capita - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

but there are advanatages (just as disadvantages) to doing it locally...

I will give it a good consideration...

Got any friends in Columbus? Take a Skybus over and do your stuff at Aquatic Adventures on the west side. Probably around $400 or so. Call them and ask.

Juliet has instructors on board and you would be a student diving with certified instructors:

"Live-aboard vacations are a great opportunity to refresh and advance your diving skills. You can learn new skills and immediately have the opportunity to practice them, which allows the skills to become second nature. Our onboard instructors are able to provide certifications from open water to rescue diver and all specialties in between." Diving and Much More

I know John is a master Naui instructor and several of the crew are instructors for other agencies.

Like others have said, look into getting certified before you go and spend your time divng. Which ever route you choose, good luck and have fun learning.

As others have suggested, get certified before you go. You won't regret it.
