I have a friend who is opening up a dive shop. I have known about it for about a month and a half but I didnt think until now, is there a "Good Luck" gift that you give someone during their grand opening?

If so, whats appropriate? Hopefully nothing Mail Order because the Grand Opening is THIS weekend.

I know, I know.....I should have thought of this earlier......

How about a nice "lucky bamboo" or a money plant? I don't know if you have a "Chinatown" district near you, but here in the Seattle area there are lots of Chinese florist shops that do them up while you wait with the red ribbon with the lucky gold writing on it. Otherwise, try IKEA, you can buy curly lucky bamboo and a nice pot and then plant it in gravel to present it.

Gift certificates to Leisurepro? Or maybe some canned goods so they can afford to eat in 3 years?

;)
No, No, No!

Get a gift certificate to McDonalds for an Adult Happy Meal.

He will get that little goodie to tell how far the shop is from home. Between opening a new shop and the price of gas he just might be walking for a while.

3 years is being conservative. ;)

Seriously, have someone photograph the event and then make up an album for later memories.

Give him/her a nice frame so they can mount their first 'dollar bill' from their first sale.

Contact DEMA in San Diego and see what info is available to a new dive shop owner. All kidding aside one of the biggest problems in the dive reatil business is that too many dive store owners do not have anywhere near the amount of sales ability needed. DEMA might be able to give your friend a hand. I now they are trying to help the store owners get better at what they are doing. Also any generic books on basic selling skills ( Zig Ziglar ) or something similar would be helpful. Tell your friend good luck, he's going to need it.
