hey i went diving last friday with a cold and on my first dive i had a small bit of uneasiness with my left ear but it passed and my second dive was just peachy... however now in that same ear i feel a sort of discomfort not a pain but it feels slightly uncomfortable... anyting to worry about.. could it jus be water in my ear or possibly something more serious what should i do or should i go to a doc after a certain time.???

Thanks

Hi Jaybombs, Welcome to Scubaboard...I am NOT a medical person, but if you are concerned enough to ask then I would think a visit to the doctor might be a good idea.
There are some Medical people that will probably give more advice. Just my $.02.

Merry Christmas! Welcome to SB!

I would say to see a doc. Most likely, it's nothing to worry about (water in ear, minor infection, small perf... or a number of other things), and will either heal or go away in a bit of time. Don't take my word for it though... see your doctor and then you'll know for sure.

I think mucus in the eustation (sp?) tubes could cause some fullness or discomfort. But, like the others said, you should prolly go see a doc.

An ear nose throat cetainly wouldnt hurt, but most likely not a big deal.

Just FYI though next time you prolly want to direct this to one of the medical forums.

Don't waste your time going to a regular doctor now, straight to the ENT(ear nose throat) doc is your best bet.

EDIT: CheekyMonkey, you beat me to it.

If you havent done so already, use drops in your ears. My favorite is a simple 50/50 mix of vinegar & rubbing alcohol. Put a few drops in your ear and let it sit there for 2-3 minutes. Repeat on other ear.

If it doesnt improve in a day or 2 go to an ENT.

Also, I always use Mucinex D for a day or 2 before diving to get rid of any congestion.

Good luck.

And what did we learn from this, jaybombs25? Don't dive with a cold, it never has a good ending. I've done stuff like that though, had a serious issue after getting back from the keys on my first ever dive trip (first dive ever really), even though our flight was two days after I got out of the water, when we landed I had some pretty nasty results in my ears. Required lots'a steroids. :11:

I'd also recommend Doc's ProPlugs, first hand account they work with amazing results! Reduced my decent times from 30ft in 10 minutes to 30ft in less than two! Go to your LDS to get the fitted though.
