My Fusion suit has arrrived, complete with Mk2 John & jacket, thermal booties & Altera boots. (Tech skin to follow)

I have tried on the boots & typically how much 'room' should there be in them.
I take size 11 (US) in trainers & wet suit boots - I was advised to get size 12 in dry boots.
When fitted with thermal booties there is about 1/2 to 3/4 spare room in front of my toes.
They feel a little 'loose' but that may be maybe just unfamiliarity with the 'feel'

When I tried them with my fins my foot would not go in as far as when I have wetsuit boots on ... and in fact stay about 2" away from bottom of foot pocket. I use Mares Avanti Quattro size XL.
Is this normal or does this mean I have to go up a fin size when diving in a dry suit ? ..(even more expense)

Sounds reasonable. You don't want the boots too tight, need the socks to be able to stay "fluffy" to provide adequate insulation. It is also very common to have to upsize fins when transitioning to a drysuit.

somehow I thought that would be the answer :-) .... even more money, and good fins are not cheap.

I tried going up a fin size, and it made me miserable. I ended up using pull-on wetsuit booties over the Fusion socks and using my old fins. It works pretty well, although I was sad to give up those nice boots.

was that the extra blade area you didn't get on with ?

I wear a size 12 (US) street shoe, and went with a size 13 Altera boot with my Fusion. With just the 3mm neoprene socks that came with the suit, the boots feel loose. However, when I wear a heavy wool hiking sock and then the neoprene sock over that the boots fit perfectly (and my feet are nice and toasty to boot). I use Turtles when diving dry, and XL Jets when diving wet with wetsuit booties.

Here's a great reference for boot/fin combos. I think the Altera boots will probably run similar to the DUI rockboots for fin sizing:

I too wear an 11 shoe and a size 12 Altera. They will fit you better when you have thicker socks on under the suit. I also went up to a XS Scuba Turtle Fin for the size 12 boots. My normal fins would not fit the Altera boots...

I have my Fusion, but i'm waiting for my EVO3's to come from Whites by way of Mike at Diverightinscuba. Now I wear a US size 13E , and at first I ordered the EVO3 14/15. After reading many posts about sizing, I had a discussion with Mike about the proper boot size choice. We decided to go with the 13 and if that did not work he would switch them out for the 14/15. I'm afraid the 13, while fitting, is not going to allow enough air from the suit and loft from the Glacier socks to exist for that warmth I'm looking for.
So I'm waiting to find out. But, I'm afraid the 14/15's will be too big. A straight 14 would probably be best. But they don't have that.
Thus my dilemma. Any thoughts let me know please.
Also, I figure the 13's are going to require Turtles, but will Turtles work with the 14/15's, or will those "frankenboots" require XXL Jetfins?
Thanks!

All the best,
Geoff

Wow!!! Looking at this page we sent suits to Brooklyn, Missouri, California, and Wales....Talk about shipping everywhere :D

Tafflad, You dont want a smaller boot, it would be too small then and would be alot worse....You will find that its really not an issue with diving...I had a size 13 on this weekend when I should have had a 12 and honestly didnt notice until I checked with my fingers to see where my foot was...but it was comfy. AS for your fins, some fins have the boot hang out a bit and some it fits more snug in the pocket...there is nothing wrong with your foot sticking out a bit as long your movement isnt hindered or your kicking. (ps yours and potablewaters tech skins are coming in at the same time....so be ready to take that lycra off ;) ) gloves are on my desk too

LOL....Its better to have your boots a little loose than tight. Geoff, I really think the 13 will be fine for you...we will know soon though
