hi

i need a little bit of your help to make the difference on the apek 1st stage

what is the diff between the DS1, DS4, DST ,THE XTX FIRST STAGE, THE ATX FIRST STAGEAND THE US4 FIRST STAGE....

they are all good i guess but i am in the market to buy some for my double so i would like some detail and comment please!!!!

here's a list of the Apeks first stages, with descriptions:

http://www.apeks.co.uk/home_frameset.htm

basically:

DS1 is sealed, with one HP and one LP port (think stage bottle)
DS4 is sealed, with one HP and four LP ports
DST is sealed with 2 HP and four LP ports and swivel turret

(the US1, US4, and UST parallel the DST's, but are not sealed)

either a DS4 or a DST will serve you well ... the rest are sort of gimmicky, in my opinion

i'd go for the DST for the swivel turret

Ok Thx But What About Th Atx And Xtx Do They Compare With The Dst Or Ds4???

personally, i think they don't bring any value over the DS series ...

that's what i've heard from Apeks owners

The DIR line is that the DS4 is the best since it is sealed, will handle cold water and doesn't have a swivel, the swivel is viewed as a potential failure point although I have yet to hear of any swivel regulator failing at the swivel. That being said I have also heard the hose routing with the DS4 can be problematic since the port placement can cause excessive hose bend angles.

I dive a DST with a TX-50 secong and TX-50 Octo. I plan on adding a pair of DS-4's for my doubles rig this year. They are great regs and breathe great in warm or cold water shallow or Deep...actually I think they breathe better deep.

i have the DS4 now and love it, but would definetely think about switching to a DST precisely because of the bend angles

now, it's not like terrible or anything, but i do wonder how much stress those hoses are under at the bends (the bends do tend to be noticeable)

DS4s are nice for steel doubles, but for AL80 doubles (no tank neck), I find FSTs (TX/ATX/XTX100 first stage) work best, hose routing wise. DS4s are great for stage/deco bottles though.

ATX and XTX are second stage designations - you can fit any one of them to a DST or DS4. The XTX first stages (XTX FSR. XTX FST etc.) are identical to the regular FSR and FST but do not have the single irregular 1/2" size LP port.
