That's crazy. That has to be $10k to $15k worth of gear.

That's crazy. That has to be $10k to $15k worth of gear.

Not necessarily crazy -- try these scenarios:
1. Widow selling dead husbands 'stuff'
2. Ex selling ex stuff
3. Permanent injury making diving impossible
4. Older person finally selling stuff because s/he finally accepts s/he cannot dive
5. Severe economic issues -- getting rid of everything with hopes of buying state-of-the-art later.
6. Military being stationed elsewhere, with plan to buy state-of-the-art later.

And, of course, stolen gear, but usually one can get a sense of this by asking questions about the gear.

I agree I'm a new diver but with an A personality so I have done my research. I decided to spend a little bit more on my regulator, BC, computer and bought it from my local dive shop but i know they aren't going anywhere, and there will never be an issue of servicing that equipment. I have learned that some dive shops are very picky with what they service. Even if this guy is legit, if you don't have constant access to him, it may not be worth it in the long run. Now for the "extra" items I am def. a fan of ebay and leisurepro, especially once you know your size for like fins and suits, etc. and all the little extra fun stuff. my knives dive lights whistles saftey sausage i get cheaper from either ebay or leisurepro(which also has an actual shop in Manhattan) . With all the stuff you get for 1500 I would ask what's wrong with it, because a good last you a really long time BC (w/ integrated octo), Regulator, and computer would run you about $1500.

WoW! I would have to imagine that you could sell the entire package(had it not gone passed already) and make enough to buy one nice complete setup for yourself Brand New from LP or Scubatoys. Wish I would have caught that one!

Peter and I got in on a deal like that -- a retired instructor wanted to clean out his gear locker and didn't want to go through the hassle of parting stuff out. We ended up with three full functioning regulators (one an Aqualung Titan), two BCs, a big Stahlsac bag, a dozen or so masks, several pairs of wetgloves and wetsuit booties, several snorkels, a usable Al13, a whole MESS of regulator and inflator hoses of various lengths, a plastic spg on a long HP hose, and stuff we threw away (pony tamer, shrimp net, etc.) for $350. Sometimes you're just in the right place at the right time.

Somebody was just doing a dump and run. Some of the stuff would have been useless. To other newbies reading the post:
- be sure to factor in the cost of servicing the BC's and regs as it would be unwise to dive anything that you don't know the service history on
- how do you know any of that stuff fits and actually works for you in the water?

My best used package deal so far was:

DUI TLS 350 Drysuit - barely used
2x PST HP 100 Tanks (now use them as dubs)
Zeagle Ranger
Apeks ATX 200 with SP R190 secondary Regset
Suunto Cobra AI with console and SK-7 compass
40 lbs of soft weight
misc. biofins, masks, lights din/yoke adapters, gear bags
and probably stuff I'm forgetting

Total: $900

Lol I sold the Ranger and the Cobra on Ebay for about $700, gave away the misc. stuff and kept the rest. Score!

This is how you dive on a budget.
