Morning Everyone!
just looking for advice on possible ways to mount my reel+dsmb.
Anywhere that I clip it to makes it flop around in the water, I like to have all my gear secure and out of the way off possible snags etc. Has anyone got a similar size reel that they have been able to attach to their harness and it’s fully secure until you ultimately remove it for use ? I’ve have tried the D-ring that’s on on the butt, but I found that it would just swing between my legs like an extended scrotum🤣
Any help would be appreciated.

You want some pockets on your exposure protection. Either glue on pockets or use tech shorts. If you don't have pockets, letting it tickle your balls is probably your best bet to get it out of the way, but since reels/spools can come undone and create an entanglement hazard, I prefer them safely tucked away in a pocket.

+1

Without pockets you’re constantly dealing with danglies. No matter what technique you use, your DSMB & spool/reel will occasionally come undone. 100% chance.

Drysuit pockets are the best bet.

Fail that a pocket on your waist belt between D ring and the plate (if your harness set up is that simple..), or my preferred solution when in the tropics: a tube-like pocket zip-tied to the bottom corners of the plate that opens to one side.

Exposed spools/reels will come undone when you least want them to...

Since your waist belt is occupied with weight pockets, you’ll probably be most satisfied sending your DS back to the manufacturer or reputable DS repair shop to have at least one cargo pocket fitted. I’d consider getting two while it’s there.

You can DIY if you’re confident you’ll get the placement and procedures right.

I dive wet (for now) and don’t need weight pockets. In that configuration, a waist belt pocket is the tidiest solution.

Sounds like a large pocket is my best bet, cheers 👌 DS is going back to O three shortly to have the neoprene neck seal replaced with a latex one so I’ll give them a ring and add some pockets on!

Try this

No never ever undone

Mostly carried here in the tightest of spaces and places, no fall off no pulled off no unravelling off ever

OMS makes weight pockets with a pocket to put stuff in it

I just clip my preassembled spool and sausage to the butt D-ring on my wing/BP and never notice it. Once, before I started double securing the sausage with a bungee in addition to the velcro wrap the sausage came undone and trailed behind me, I did eventually notice that. I am not much into things dangling off of me but less so the more things that are inevitably stuffed into pockets if equipped and the sausage/spool assembly so secured it really is out of sight and out of mind.
