Hey everyone,

I am in the market for a new Dive Computer and would like some input on comparing a few different ones.

Here are the ones I am looking at, I also welcome any new suggestions. I am looking for one with a transmitter, hopefully not sold seperately.

Hollis TK1 - 549.95 (Not sure if it comes with the transmitter or not)

Shearwater Petrel - 759.99. (I believe this has no transmitter at all)

Scubapro UWTEC Smart Tec - All my dive buddies have this one and swear by it. I haven't been able to find any "unused" for sale.

Scubapro Galileo Sol - 1229.00 - I really hated the screen. It was hard to see while I was in the shop.

Aries A300 CS - 1295.99

I really want the Suunto Eon but its a bit out of my price range.

Thanks Everyone

Eon is $1400, only $200 more than Galileo sol or A300. If that is what you want, I think you should just go for it. It will cost your more to sell any one of these and upgrade EON later.

Not that it matters but all your buddies are diving a discontinued model. More than a few years also - I think they came out in 2006 originally. Galileo's use the same algorithm but if you don't like the screen...

a Hollis TX1 sells for $549. $899 with transmitter.

Hollis TX-1 Trimix Computer with Transmitter 204-2361/204-2304

Petrel's are not air-integrated by design. But are future upgradeable - one of few computers that is.
It's the current darling on SB also - read any of the other "what computer should I buy threads".

You can also get an EON for $1049 at Leisurepro - currently Out of Stock but maybe they'll get more. The catch is they're not an Authorized Aqualung (U.S. Suunto distributor) dealer so any required service/warranty work would be through then with their equivalent warranty. You can read/decide on that here: Policies and Legal Notices | LeisurePro.com

I just happened to notice there's a June 2015 software update being announced so you might check to see that you get/can get it if you do buy one.

Suunto EON Steel Wrist Computer 203050 Looks like $325 more for the transmitter also.

Thanks guys. and as for buying the EON it is 1880 with the transmitter. which is out of reach.

I knew the smart tec was old but thought I would still be able to find one, but guess not

I have my clipped off SPGs so not completely necessary for integrated i guess

What is the difference between the Aeris A300 and Oceanic VTX

I was told shearwater has no plans to add air integration. It's a matter of choosing not to introduce a potentially life-threatening failure point.

The petrel is fantastic, best computer out there in my opinion. Super robust, great visibility (with option to change colors for your preference), a compass in the newest version, Bluetooth log upload, customizable data layout (including the elegant rec mode), and if anything ever goes wrong, they are famous for excellent service.

^^^This.

I see no reason to go with anything but a Petrel these days. A case could be made if you got something super cheap and all you ever did was easy NDL dives in warm, shallow water, however realistically there's nothing that a Petrel doesn't do that you would want, and it'll do it better than any other computer on the market, even in those shallow, warm, clear, touristy type dives.

If you tell us about the diving you plan on doing with it, it would help a lot. Buying a shearwater product for ndl dives using one gas is a HUGE wast of monies IMHO.
YMMV
Eric

Before you buy the Aeris A300 CS or the Oceanic version of it, you really want to check out the threads on the Aeris forum. Lots of first-hand reports there. I own one as well and have posted my experiences there.
