I will be cruising the Mexican Riviera in November of this year. (Carnival Conquest)The ship will be stopping at Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. The first question is: Which of the above places would you dive if you could only pick one and why? How about if you could pick a second. Which one and why?

Also can you recommend dive shops that cater to cruise ships at these locations. My experience is that private dive shops do a better job than a ship based dive excursion. Thanks for the help.

Cabo has buy far the better Diving. The boats leave the port for a short 5 min. Ride to the dive spots. There are 6 locations close to the docks.I would Dive North Wall and Neptunes Finger. You will see more on these two dives than almost anywhere in Mexico.
I have been Diving with Baja Dive for a few years. Nice Boat great Dive Masters.I know they will have you back on time. .baja-dive.net

Diving is lots better in Cabo.I like North Wall lots of fish, sea Fans, Mirco life, big Morys. My secound pick would be Middle Wall. Big groupers,Nice canyons and rock formations. My last Dive there I saw a school of Mantas about 15 Eagle Rays.
I have been Diving with Baja Dive for years and always have a great trip. They do all the work and have a roomy boat.
Dive Master Memo is a real gas to Dive With always a big smile.

Please consider Puerto Vallarta for diving and if you do contact and dive with Alex @ PV Scuba Puerto Vallarta Scuba Diving and Specialty Diving School: PVSCUBA They are very professional and excellent knowledge of Banderas Bay. They run small groups so you get specialized attention. I know this because I just dove with them in March. Their location is in the same marina as where your ship will dock but on the other side, so you will probably have to take a very short taxi ride to get to them.

I would say that Cabo diving and PV diving are pretty close, about the same vis (just ok), same fish life, not much for soft corals in either place but big stuff sometimes.
Cabo has diving close in to the town, the dive sites are 5 to 10 minute boat rides. When the sea lions are active it's awesome to dive with them. There are lots of eels, rays and tropicals in both places.
PV diving sites are 30 mins to Los Arcos, 1 hr 30mins to Las Marietas (pretty site), and farther out to El Morro and that is from Los Pienes pier.
My favourite is Sea Lion Rock and Land's End in Cabo. I usually use Amigos Del Mar in Cabo their boat is about 20 steps from the cruise ship tender pier.
n PV I have used Pacific Scuba and Twin Dolphins.
I would choose Cabo to dive because you can dive two tanks and then still have time to see a bit of Cabo walking around plus the view from the dive boat is awesome of the Arch.
Have fun.
