Always prep all of your scuba/photo equipment atleast 2 weeks in advance of a trip, not 3 days. :(

I just remembered I am out of my clear photo system for my PT-015/Olympus 5050...it's Monday morning, I leave Thursday morning.

Is there any other way to get the clear photo system without having to purchase the Optical D Cable/Cap W5 set? This is for my INON D-180.

Anyone in the Chicago area with an extra 'clear' system?

:11:

Thanks,

Jason

Are you talking about the little bit that goes over the internal flash? If so, you can use a bit of old negative and sticky it down.

I've also gone out with my back up body and nothing covering the internal flash. Set on slave 1 and no noticeable backscatter.

Cut a thin piece of plastic the shape of the diffuser and put it under the screw that holds the W5 to the diffuser. I never use the internal IR thing as there are times I want to use both flashes- some macro and supermacro shots. By using the one held on by the W5, I can remove it underwater if I want. You can always just put electrical tape over the diffuser as a last resort.

That is a great tip Herman!!!

Herman,

I understand, but do you have a photo of this? I don't see how plastic can keep the internal flash from reaching the subject!

what about electrical tape over the camera's flash..will the signal still get through the tape?

I really am not a DIYselfer..even on something simple like this. I prefer to use the original product. If there is ever a problem with my flash etc, it is easier to troubleshoot the source of the problem instead of guessing on whether or not the problem is in the change I made.

If you cover the diffuser with tape, and then attach the fiber optic cable, the cable should still pick up the signal as the reflector for the cable is on the inside of the reflector.

Ok, makes sense now.

However, I got lucky and found someone who sells the clear photo system in Missouri, so my pre-trip dilemma has been solved.

thanks for the ideas though, good to know.
