Help in Aruba Pls

Hi All,

I have wanted to dive for a long time but just have not gotten around to taking lessons. I will be going to Aruba in December and would like to do a vacation dive one day. Does anyone know the most beginner friendly place for this? Any advice?

The most beginner friendly dive site in Aruba is the wreck of the Pedernalis. It's a transport ship that was torpedo'd amidships during WWII. They cut out the torpedo'd section and weled it back together, leaving the wrecked section in the middle in about 15 to 20 feet of water.

It's also very popular as a snorkel site. But it's the most common shallow water site for checkout dives and "discover scuba" dives.

Most of the dive shops there do the "discover scuba" type dives where they do a short class, put you in the pool for a short intro and then take you on a dive to a shallow site. The Pedernalis is a good site for this. I really liked it also though as it was a great photo site with lots of natural light and the fish were easily photographed as they are used to being fed by snorkel groups.

As for which shop to use, most all of them are popular with divers. Do a search for "aruba" using the search function and you'll find all kinds of threads with that info.

When are you going to Aruba? I will be there Dec 21-28, and plan to dive.

Where are you staying? The major hotel chains have dive operations on site, like Red Sail scuba out of the Hyatt. The diving off the west side is straightforward, with shallow wrecks and reefs, calm seas, short boat trips. Red Sail has several afternnon one-tank dives often populated by "resort divers". But there are plenty of choices, different boats, prices. But for new divers, the Pedernales wreck and Arashi reef are ideal sites.

If you will be staying at/near the Holiday Inn Sunspree, Pelican Watersports' pier is right there. They run a nice op and are very friendly. As others have already said, the Pedernales is a fun dive too.
