I just don't log dives
This is the other reg I picked up with the Sherwood. Its an Aqua Lung reg that I haven't seen on the net. It only has the primary one secondary (no octo) and the tank pressure guage and depth guage. I don't think its a Conshelf (I think its a later model) but it obviously isn't the titan either. The primary is some sort of a brushed metal, rather than chrome.

Thanks.

If you are getting these things really cheap, fine. But I'd suggest you stop buying until you get certified and figure out what you are looking for. You can get great deal on Craiglist buying for a old diver or someone who just had this stuff laying around - but alot of it is just junk that will cost you more to service it than it is worth. And, I'd advise against Ebay, as it is full of charlatans who are buying stuff really cheap and then splitting it up and ripping off people. Now, "1 in the million" you might get a good deal, but mostly you're just wasting time.

Now that I've said the above, I'll tell you these two stories. One of my friends has a brother who decided to quit instructing. I went over to his house (I wished I'd gotten there 1 month earlier for his main reg set) and bought everything he had left - really nice stuff - everything from a float tube to all kinds of hardware and a really nice big heavy duty box. Another time, I saw in our local newspaper an ad and I decided to drive by the day before to be able to find the place since it was an odd address (I hate and do not do "early turd birding"). I saw an older couple struggling to put together raft and could see that they had mis-assembled something which would have made it impossible to put the rest of it together, so I got out and helped them. They were the nicest couple who had been diving their entire 40+ marriage. Afterwords, they invited me in the house and not only told me to buy whatever I want, they also showed me pictures of their dives around the World. I bought a number of Conshelfs that I dive with today (primary and backups), diveknives (including a pink one for my granddaughters - 5 months & 2 1/2 - I have to wait a while) - and not only that, we spent hours looking at underwater photos from around the World (no, I did not buy their Nikonos)!!! :)

I realize I'm putting the cart before the horse, but for about $25 each (they came with 2 bcds, 2 sets of fins, etc for $75), I couldn't pass these up. I've poked around on ebay and I'm sure I'll get my money back, and hopefully selling one will pay for the service on the other. For right now, I'm enjoying learning about all this stuff and I appreciate everyone's advice (which I will now follow since I can't possibly use any more of these things). The knowledge that's here is wonderful. Thanks for all the help.

....I think that's an OLD 'Aquarius' 1st-stage.....really pretty prehistoric, so don't expect to get anything for it on E-Bay......also, conditions underwater can often be unforgiving/severe....so I'd never dream of diving a resurrected $ 25 reg.....kinda like restoring a '74 Ford Pinto back to mint condition....you could, but what would be the point ? as they say, "ya can't polish a turd!"

That is a US Diver Royal....not to be confused with a Royal Aquamaster..although truth is they use the same internal parts-, not many were sold in the US from what I can tell, just don't see them around. Not the best second stage in the world but it would do OK. The first on the other hand is exactly the same internally as a Conshelf/SEA/Titan and darn near every other USD/AL reg made in the last 50 years. I would find a good second stage to use as a primary, use the current one as an octo and dive it...assuming you have it all serviced before hand. Otherwise drop me a PM, I may be interested in adding it to my USD/AL collection.

Herman,
How does that differ from a USD Pro Diver first stage?

Not sure but if it looks like that one, internally it's the same. 90% of the differences in USD/AL diaphram regs are cosmetic rather then functional...Not saying the design is bad, to the contrary it's a good design IMO. It's served well since it was introduced in the mid 60's and continues to do so to this day.

Herman,
How does that differ from a USD Pro Diver first stage?

I believe,
The Pro diver had 1- 1/2" LP port, two 3/8" LP, and one 7/16" HP port.
The USD Royal had 3 1/2" LP ports and one HP port.
No other difference that I can remember off the top of my head.
