I've got nothing to offer in the way of advice, especially after all the others that have done so. I'll just say that I know you'll be just fine and will learn to love diving. Enjoy!

I think my problem is multitasking with what I need to do when going down. I am one of those people that holds her breath when she gets nervous, so I am constantly watching my breathing, then when I try to equalize, etc etc, or do the tasks, clear mask, switch regs, I sometimes start to panic.

Well, I'm not sure abt others, but the more dives/practice I do, the better I get with handling those tasks and soon you will find that it is natural to do them and you will do them simultaneously :D

Just relax and breathe and soon you will love diving like anyone of us here :)

I'm a new diver and also a long time swimmer like you. I was on the Swim Team almost all my childhood through HS. I played water-polo and had a pool at home.

One of the things I realize I was doing wrong on my OW Cert dives was that I was not using my swimming skills enough.

I was under the impression that I had to use my BC for everything. The water was murky which didn't help, but I was constantly looking at my depth gauge and making adjustments to my BC. If I wanted to go up a little I'd put air in the BC, if I wanted to go down a little I dump air. The fact that these dives were shallow made my actions even more extreme.

Once I got the chace to do some deep dives (more than just 30ft) I realized that I didn't really need to adjust my BC that often at all. If I wanted to changed depth I could swim up or down. I feel much more comfortable now.

I don't know what you're getting task loaded with in the pool, but if you're making alot of BC adjustments.....Stop. Just use the BC initially to get yourself off the bottom then forget about it and swim around.
