Sounds like you've sorted through it guys - PM me your email address scuba65 and I'll send you pictures of my setup.

Alcina thanks so much for all your help...much appreciated. I''m hoping to get at least 1-2 good pictures when i go to the Bahamas in 2 weeks.

Oopps....that's crappy. did you get it finally to work? i'm debating if i should put the blk film over the camera flash. what do you think?

alcina:
Nope, not working yet!!

I can't even get the durn thing attached. but it isn't firing anyway for some reason...
A checklist:
1a. Is the strobe turned on and recyling? Assuming you have a fresh set of batteries in turn the strobe on and wait for the ready light to come on. Does the ready light come on? No? then check your batteries and battery connection. Yes? go to 1b.

1b. Does it fire in TEST mode? Select a manual output level on the strobe power (e.g. -2). Turn the dial from ON <-> WIRE to TEST. Does the strobe fire? No? then o-oh! :11: . Yes? go to 2a.

2a. Is your camera's flash firing? No, check your flash settings. Yes, go to 2b.

2b. Is the strobe in the correct setting? Assuming you are using an optical cable then ON <-> OPTICAL & SLAVE. Go to 3a.

3a. Does the strobe slave without the fibre optical cable? Hold the optical sensor of the strobe (remove the fibre optical connector) close to the camera's flash. Take a picture - the strobe should fire. No? then o-oh! :11: . Yes? then go to 3b.

3b. Connect the fibre optical kit. Take a picture. Does the strobe fire? No? (i) the optical cable may be damaged or not connected properly. Unscrew the cap from the strobe sensor. Take a picture while looking at the fibre optic end inside the cap. Do you you see a faint glow of the camera's flash? Or (ii) your camera's flash output (in M shooting mode) may not be strong enough to trigger the strobe through the fibre optical cable - dial a higher flash output level on the camera.

Good luck!

HTH.

Hand me the Blonde Hat!! Just another reason NOT to set your gear up an hour before your dive!

Thanks, ReyeR..I am printing that out for future reference, too. A most excellent check-list.

My problem was that I was trying to get it to work on wire and not on Optical. I can only think it was because I was still half asleep, but it is embarassing none-the-less! :11:

I still don't get how to actually ATTACH the fibre optic cable to the Canon housing...any ideas?

I used my trusty Ike strobe on the first dive this morning. Heading out again later this afternoon, too...

Well, glad that you got it to work finally. The fibre optic cable that ReyeR said above is what I have with mine. This is all so hard work....man! Alcina did you get any good pictures???
